Island 88 is taking a bold stride into the future by proudly announcing the launch of its state-of-the-art BMW i EV Charging Station. Situated conveniently at the Island 88 sub-Basement, this new facility is equipped with three 7.4kWh AC chargers and the first 60kWh DC chargers in Tanjong Tokong. It marks a significant milestone towards fostering a more sustainable future for both the mall and its community, providing drivers with a fast and efficient way to power up their electric vehicles while enjoying their shopping experience.
YB Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, ADUN Pulau Tikus, emphasizes the timeliness of installing EV charging stations at Island 88, given the increasing prevalence of electric cars in Penang. He advocates for the establishment of more charging stations with faster charging durations statewide.
“We are thrilled to provide our environmentally conscious customers with this exciting new amenity,” says Mr. Philip Law, Managing Director of Island 88. “By installing EV charging stations, we are not only supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles but also demonstrating our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and creating a more sustainable future for our community. Additionally, we have plans for environmentally friendly initiatives such as green building index compliance, a pipeline installation of a solar panel project, and more go-green efforts in 2024.”
The launch event, graced by YB Joshua Woo, State Assemblyman of ADUN Pulau Tikus, BMW Tian Siang, and JomCharge, underscores the collaborative effort towards a greener future. EVC Managing Director, Ir Lee Yuen How, emphasizes the aim to install more DCFC EV charging stations across Malaysia, particularly in Penang, where EV facilities are still scarce.
Tian Siang Premium Auto’s Dealer Principal, Mr. Tan Ka Kin, highlights the significance of the collaboration with EVC, noting that the new BMW charging stations, developed in partnership with JomCharge, incorporate advanced technology and user-friendly features to enhance the overall EV charging experience. These strategically positioned stations at Island 88 cater to the growing demand for electric mobility, ensuring quick and efficient charging for EV drivers.
During a tour of the new wing of Island 88, Mr. Philip Law shares exciting plans for the first quarter of 2024, including the opening of outlets like Venti Restaurant, Juice 360, Sky 7 Hutong Café, Oon Kee Outlet, Traditional Korean Restaurant, Gimbap Brothers, BL Furnishing, Mili Pilates, Kakitoys, Bear Go Bare, and more. Island 88 is not just a shopping destination but a hub committed to a sustainable and innovative future.
