Hyundai successfully concluded its exhilarating 11-day journey through five countries in Asia with the IONIQ 5 ASEAN Tour, themed ‘Go Far with Zero Worries.’ The tour wrapped up in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on November 30, 2023, after traversing Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia. Covering a total distance of 3,197 kilometers, the EV tour showcased the IONIQ 5’s reliability, eco-friendliness, and long-distance capabilities, addressing skepticism in the Southeast Asian market.

Aligning with its initial objectives, the tour became a dynamic proving ground, emphasizing the IONIQ 5’s prowess in the region. Notably, the journey exceeded expectations in terms of cost efficiency, with each car incurring only US$116 for the entire trip—approximately two times more cost-efficient than an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

Youngtack Lee, President of Hyundai Motor ASEAN HQ, expressed Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and shaping the future of mobility. He declared, “Our dedication to making electric vehicles more accessible as the definitive clean mobility solution of tomorrow has taken a giant leap forward. Witnessing the tremendous success and excitement generated by the IONIQ 5 ASEAN Tour, we are propelled to intensify our comprehensive innovation aimed at fortifying the EV infrastructure and ecosystem across the region. The journey may have concluded, but the electric excitement has just begun.”

The groundbreaking initiative comprised five vehicles, including two manufactured in Indonesia and three in Singapore, in collaboration with participants from the Association of Singapore (AAS), Hyundai Motor Company, local community influencers, and Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) from Indonesia and Thailand. The tour kicked off in Singapore with a thrilling ceremony and featured a media convoy in Malaysia, showcasing the sleek IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6.

In Bangkok, Thailand, the IONIQ 5’s revolutionary Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology transformed the cars into power hubs, enhancing outdoor experiences like lamps, music performances, mini cinema experiences, and culinary events. The tour featured influencers like Nithi Thuamprathom from Thailand, who expressed his conviction in the future of electric vehicles, specifically the IONIQ 5, in transforming transportation.

As the tour ventured into Cambodia, Fitra Eri, an influencer from Indonesia and an automotive expert, shared insights about the immense potential of electric vehicles in shaping the future of transportation.

Culminating in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the tour’s grand finale featured an electrifying media convoy, with Fitra Eri declaring, “As the first proud owner of the IONIQ 5 in Indonesia, my electric vehicle journey shattered the anxiety about city limits. This tour not only confirmed that beyond urban boundaries, we experienced zero worries and unmatched convenience during long-distance drives with the IONIQ 5 crossing borders of different countries, but it also erased anxieties about finding charging stations. We arrived at our destinations rejuvenated, waking up to a fully charged vehicle the next morning.”
