In an official ceremony held recently, national carmaker Proton introduced a brand new sedan named the Proton S70. The event was graced by the presence of Dato’ Hairil Yahri Yaacob, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), as the new sedan rolled off the Tanjong Malim production line. This launch marks a significant milestone as it is Proton’s first all-new addition to its sedan line-up since the debut of the Proton Persona in August 2016.

The Proton S70 was given the official tagline “Intelligence that Evolves” by Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton. Dr. Li also confirmed that starting from November 1, 2023, all Proton outlets will begin accepting customer bookings for the Proton S70, with a reservation fee of RM500.

Dr. Li Chunrong expressed the significance of the Proton S70, stating, “The Proton S70 marks a new chapter for Proton as we re-enter the family sedan market with a model that represents the next evolution of our product offerings. Equipped with intelligent safety technology, connectivity features, and a 1.5L turbocharged engine with dual clutch transmission, we have high expectations that it will resonate with both current and new Proton enthusiasts. We aim to reclaim our top position in a market segment previously dominated by models such as the Proton Wira, Waja, and Prevé.”

Continuing in the footsteps of the successful Proton X70, Proton X50, and the mild hybrid Proton X90, the Proton S70 is the fourth all-new Proton model developed in collaboration with Geely. It’s also the second new model slated for release in 2023. Before its official launch, customer previews are scheduled to take place in several major Malaysian state capitals, starting from November 11, 2023, giving the public an opportunity for an up-close and personal look at the model.

Dr. Li Chunrong emphasized the significance of the occasion, saying, “Today’s line-off ceremony represents another vital step in PROTON’s collaboration with DRB-HICOM and Geely to establish Tanjong Malim and the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) as a national automotive hub. Since 2019, the company has invested over RM1.8 billion in upgrading the facilities here, including a new engine assembly line, a stamping shop, and new assembly lines. This investment sets the stage for the company’s future plans, which include expanding our range to incorporate more New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and eventually, electric vehicles.”
