Stellantis N.V., a global automotive leader and mobility provider, is set to make significant strides in the ASEAN region by establishing a National Sales Company (NSC) in Malaysia by the first quarter of 2024. This strategic move is a pivotal part of Stellantis’ expansion plans, aligning with its global Dare Forward 2030 strategy and commitment to electrification.

The upcoming NSC in Malaysia will serve as the official entity responsible for overseeing and managing the sale and distribution of Stellantis vehicles in the country. This shift in business strategy reflects Stellantis’ dedication to its electrification goals and broader growth objectives in the region.

Jamie Francis Morais, the current Head of Aftersales for the ASEAN & General Distributors operations at Stellantis, will spearhead the Malaysia NSC. With an impressive 19-year track record in the automotive industry, Morais brings extensive experience from renowned global brands, including Toyota, BMW, Nissan, and Proton. His leadership spans various domains, including aftersales, network management, customer service, quality control, sales, and training.

Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAA), a 55% owned subsidiary of Bermaz Auto Berhad and the current distributor for PEUGEOT in Malaysia, will collaborate with Stellantis during this transition period. Despite the changes, both companies are committed to ensuring uninterrupted vehicle service, parts availability, warranty support, and aftersales services for PEUGEOT customers in Malaysia.

Stellantis’ strategic shift in the ASEAN region also encompasses exploring the potential of the Gurun plant in Kedah as a regional manufacturing hub for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This initiative aims to produce BEVs for both domestic and export markets in ASEAN, further driving consumer adoption of electric vehicles in the region.

To support its Dare Forward 2030 strategy, Stellantis is investing over RM2 billion (€400 million) to introduce the STLA Medium platform to the ASEAN region. This modular platform enables the production of multi-energy vehicles, including battery electric vehicles (BEV), internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, and mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEV). The platform will also facilitate local manufacturing of cars from Stellantis’ diverse portfolio of brands, such as Jeep and Citroën, contributing to the company’s commitment to sustainability in the region.
