In a significant development in the automotive industry, Sime Darby Motors (SDM) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gentari Sdn Bhd, facilitated by its subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd. Their collaboration aims to accelerate the expansion of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and infrastructure within the SDM network, including public locations, while also introducing various complementary initiatives.

Under the terms of the MoU, SDM and Gentari will embark on an exploration of opportunities to establish EV charging stations and related infrastructure at SDM’s automotive facilities across Malaysia, as well as in other regional markets served by SDM. The collaboration goes beyond traditional showrooms, with plans to bring EV charging facilities to golf clubs, hotels, healthcare centers, and various other potential locations. Moreover, the partnership will introduce value-added services to encourage EV adoption among Malaysians. These services encompass EV charging subscription plans, personalized home charging packages, portable charging services, and flexible mobile charging solutions, among other offerings.

The MoU doesn’t stop there; it also delves into the realm of EV fleet solutions, catering to the evolving needs of businesses and governments seeking cleaner and more sustainable transportation alternatives. The collaboration envisions several joint projects and initiatives aimed at boosting EV adoption, enhancing infrastructure, and developing innovative EV-related products and services.

Recognizing the crucial role of renewable energy, the MoU extends its scope to explore solar energy projects, including the installation of solar energy systems and storage solutions.

This significant agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony attended by key representatives. Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Retail and Distribution for Sime Darby Motors in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Macau, and Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and CEO of Gentari Green Mobility, were among the signatories. Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia, and Haikal Zubir, Chief Operating Officer of Gentari Green Mobility, witnessed the signing, underlining the collaborative commitment to electrifying Southeast Asia’s transportation landscape.
