Proton recently joined forces with Gentari Sdn Bhd, a pioneering clean energy solutions company, to introduce a groundbreaking 100 kWh DC fast charger. This cutting-edge charging station was unveiled at the Proton Centre of Excellence (CoE) headquarters, strategically located along the KESAS highway.
This dynamic fast charger, expertly installed by Gentari’s subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, is conveniently positioned at the Proton Crystal showroom’s customer parking area. Notably, this charging facility is accessible to all electric vehicle (EV) users, irrespective of their vehicle’s brand.
This monumental achievement follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between Gentari and Proton’s new energy subsidiary, PRO-NET, on October 12, 2022. Since then, both companies have been diligently exploring innovative solutions to fortify Malaysia’s EV charging infrastructure. One of their notable collaborative efforts involves Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, Proton Global Services, and other strategic partners working on a proof-of-concept for a mobile EV charging solution using the Proton Exora.
Currently, three units of these proof-of-concept mobile chargers are undergoing rigorous testing. Each charger boasts an impressive 30 kW of charging power. Ongoing user studies are underway to gauge the demand for this pioneering mobile charging concept.
Furthermore, PRO-NET is collaborating with Gentari to implement fast chargers at multiple Proton dealerships across Malaysia. In the initial phase of this ambitious program, five additional Gentari DC chargers are slated for installation by the end of 2023, with a long-term target of outfitting twenty dealerships with these high-speed chargers.
In a parallel development, four forward-thinking smart Malaysia dealers have already taken the initiative to install DC chargers from other providers. This proactive move anticipates the launch of their inaugural model, the smart #1, and demonstrates the growing momentum in Malaysia’s electric vehicle charging landscape.
