The Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival and GAZOO Racing (GR) Vios Challenge Season 6 are gearing up to deliver an unforgettable weekend of excitement at the Sepang International Circuit. From September 30th to October 1st, 2023, the circuit will transform into a vibrant hub of festivities dedicated to fans and their families. Admission is absolutely free, and the event welcomes everyone to join in the two-day extravaganza. Prepare for a thrilling blend of racing action, concerts, meet and greets, local delights, and artistry both on and off the track.
Day one of the festival promises an electrifying lineup of musical performances featuring renowned artists such as hip-hop sensation KMY KMO, local rap sensation Luca Sickta, and the beloved Malaysian pop and alternative rock group OAG. Day two takes it up a notch, starting with an alternative rock performance by Iqbal M and headlining with the main act, 16 Baris, featuring an ensemble of top-notch artists including Joe Flizzow, MK, SonaOne, ALYPH, AbangSapau, Killa Driz, Sophia Liana, Gard, Pele, Fuego & DJ CZA.
Racing enthusiasts will have the opportunity to witness the debut of the all-new fourth-generation, race-ready Toyota Vios. These cars will be put to the test by nine celebrity racers in the Promotional Class before becoming the standard in all categories for Season 7 of the GR Vios Challenge in 2024. The upgraded Vios retains its 1.5-liter engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission but boasts a sturdier and more stable platform, along with enhanced aerodynamics, ensuring improved cornering, responsiveness, and even faster lap times.
As for the on-track action, the finale will witness 45 drivers competing across various classes, including the Super Sporting Class for elite and professional drivers, Sporting Class for amateurs, Rookie Class for young talents, and the Promotional Class for celebrities, all vying for the prestigious Season 6 championship titles. In the Super Sporting Class, Prima Pearl TD Racing’s Mitchell Cheah and Laser Motor Racing’s Putera Adam lead the charge, with Cheah holding a narrow 5-point advantage at 59 points.
The Sporting Class for amateur drivers sees Axle Sports’ Nabil Azlan with a similar 5-point edge over Bradley Benedict Anthony, with Nabil tallying 68 points compared to Bradley’s 63. In the Rookie Class, the competition is intense between Iman Danish (59 points) and Elson Lew (52 points). In the Promotional Class, Zizan Razak has taken a commanding lead with 70 points, with Ezzrin Loy closely trailing at 55 points. However, Ezzrin’s consistency, marked by four consecutive podium finishes, positions him as a dark horse contender for the overall title.
