Proton recently achieved a remarkable sales milestone by surpassing 100,000 units for the fifth straight year, achieving this feat in August, a month ahead of 2022. In August, Proton delivered 13,955 units, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) sales for 2023 to 104,602 units, a 19.6% increase over the same period last year.
Proton’s market share for August is projected to be 18.8% with an estimated total industry volume (TIV) of 74,200 units, resulting in a YTD market share of 20.8%. Notably, Proton’s sales growth outpaces the estimated 12.2% TIV growth for 2023.
The sales success of Proton in 2023 is attributed to four models leading their respective segments. The Proton X90, a recent addition, leads D-segment SUV sales with 2,944 units cumulatively. The Proton X50 maintains its dominance in the B-segment SUV market with 22,750 YTD units. The Proton Exora sets the standard for C-segment MPV sales with 3,150 YTD units.
The Proton Persona consistently exceeds 2,000 monthly units in 2023, totaling 16,561 YTD units, leading the B-segment sedan category. The Proton Saga achieved its highest monthly sales of 2023 in August with 6,585 units, a 34.2% increase over 2022, securing the second spot in Malaysia’s overall sales for the third consecutive month.
The Proton Iriz experienced a resurgence in sales with 5,362 YTD units, a 50.3% increase from the previous year. Finally, the Proton X70 ended the month with 1,002 units sold, bringing its YTD sales to 7,999 units.
