Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is delighted to announce the successful graduation of 38 talented apprentices from its prestigious Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (AMA) Program. Simultaneously, the company welcomes a fresh cohort of 42 apprentices for the year 2023, highlighting its unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of automotive professionals.
During the past three years, the 38 graduating apprentices underwent rigorous training, culminating in their certification as globally-recognized Mercedes-Benz technicians. These newly-certified professionals are poised to join the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Retail Network, which boasts an extensive base of over 1,000 Service Personnel. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity for job placements within the company’s Service Network for the next four years. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s investment per student over the three-year program amounts to RM100,000.
Fakharuddin bin Abu Hanipah, the recipient of the Best Student Award from the graduating class of 2023, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I extend my sincere thanks to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia for the incredible opportunity I’ve had over the past three years. This program has equipped me with the essential skills and knowledge needed to navigate the dynamic automotive industry. I’m appreciative of the guidance provided by our knowledgeable trainers and excited for the next phase of my journey.”
Fakharuddin’s selection as the best student was the result of his exceptional performance in various aspects of the three-year course, including punctuality, work efficiency, proper use of tools, knowledge, safety consciousness, behavior, interpersonal skills, work attitude, and responsibility.
The Advanced Modern Apprenticeship program offers a best-in-class training module for developing top automotive talents, setting it apart from similar programs in the country. It’s a three-year training program with full scholarships under the National Dual Training System (NDTS) in collaboration with the Department of Skills Development (JPK) under the Ministry of Human Resources.
Recipients of this full scholarship receive a monthly allowance of RM800 throughout the three-year program, along with an annual RM500 allowance covering uniforms and safety shoes. During the course, students gain the latest technical knowledge and diagnostic skills aligned with the advanced technology of Mercedes-Benz products. Upon completion, students receive three certifications: the Mercedes-Benz Automotive Mechatronic Training Certificate, Mercedes-Benz Qualified Maintenance Technician Certificate, and National Dual Training System Certificate, which is equivalent to the Malaysian Skills Certificate Level 3 (SKM 3). This comes with a guaranteed four-year employment opportunity.
In September 2023, 42 new apprentices were carefully selected to join the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Program following a rigorous evaluation process. Notably, five of these apprentices are from Montfort Boys Town, underscoring the success of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia last year.
The two-year MoU, signed in September 2022, includes a “Train the Trainer Collaboration” where Mercedes-Benz Malaysia imparts technical skills and expertise training on Mercedes-Benz vehicles to Montfort’s trainers. Montfort then transfers this valuable knowledge and skills to their students. This collaboration also aims to develop and enhance the training curriculum, fostering an interest among Montfort students in Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s apprenticeship program.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and Montfort Boys Town will further strengthen their partnership with upcoming initiatives such as a Trainer Exchange Program in October 2023 and a Train the Trainer program scheduled for December 2023, both geared toward promoting knowledge sharing and skills development.
