Mercedes-Benz Malaysia recently announced a new leadership transition, appointing Amanda Zhang as the CEO & President of Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia and Head of Region for Mercedes-Benz Cars SEA II, effective from August 1st, 2023. Zhang’s elevation marks the next step in the company’s evolution, succeeding the current CEO, Sagree Sardien, who will take on the role of Head of Region Overseas for Mercedes-Benz Cars in Stuttgart.

Under Sardien’s stewardship, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has played a pivotal role in advancing the brand’s global mission of crafting the world’s most coveted automobiles guided by sustainability principles, both locally and within the SEA II region. Notable among her achievements is her contribution to steering Malaysia’s electric mobility landscape, introducing an impressive lineup of luxury electric vehicles (EVs), including the locally produced Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC. Sardien’s leadership has also fostered the brand’s transformational journey through the adoption of futuristic retail models and a commitment to community well-being through various corporate citizenship initiatives.

Prior to this appointment, Zhang demonstrated her leadership acumen as the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Romania, overseeing four critical business divisions. Under her guidance, the team achieved remarkable momentum, registering robust double-digit growth in sales and customer services. Zhang’s role in advancing electrification strategies within a challenging market environment and revitalizing the Romanian dealer network has been particularly impactful.

Zhang’s journey with Mercedes-Benz began in 2014 when she joined Region Europe. Her contributions included establishing regional product management and marketing teams and creating regional hubs, laying the groundwork for today’s Experience Center within Region Europe. Her digital prowess also enabled the successful establishment of Customer Journey Operations, a Salesforce CRM Hub in Bucharest, serving European markets in recent years.

Zhang’s trajectory within the company commenced over two decades ago through Daimler’s International Management Associate Programme. Her career journey includes overseeing intricate international projects, most notably the “Journey to China,” involving the relocation of wholesale operations from Hong Kong to Beijing. With her extensive experience and visionary mindset, Amanda Zhang is set to steer Mercedes-Benz Malaysia into a new era of innovation and growth.
