BMW Shorties recently premiered ‘RAHASIA,’ a captivating film funded by BMW and crafted by the talented Syahmi Norsan, the 2022 Grand Prize Winner.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Carey Island in Malaysia, ‘RAHASIA’ delves into profound themes of identity, family, and heritage deeply intertwined with the ancient Mah Meri tribe. With an artful blend of storytelling finesse and compelling visuals, the film follows Samri, the protagonist, whose urban lifestyle has distanced him from his Mah Meri roots and estranged father. However, when he receives news of his brother’s deteriorating health, Samri is compelled to return to his origins and confront the ghosts of his past.
Expressing immense gratitude, Director Syahmi Norsan credits the BMW Shorties for providing him with a unique platform to shed light on a subject that holds immense personal significance – the often overlooked Mah Meri tribe, one of the oldest inhabitants of Peninsular Malaysia.
