After the successful launch of the Kia EV6, Kia Malaysia under the distributorship of Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd expanded their EV range with a brand new model, the Kia Niro EV. The Kia Niro EV is an innovative and high-tech crossover that Malaysians another alternative to sustainable mobility. Fully imported from Korea, the Kia Niro EV will be priced at 255,888.00.

From the outside, the new Niro EV will come with Kia’s design philosophy called “Opposites United” and the “Joy for Reason” design pillar. These design pillars are meant to combine emotional and rational elements to inspire movement. Kia designers have taken their inspiration from the nature, where the colors, materials and trims are aim to balance environmental responsibility.

Based on Kia’s 2019 HabaNiro concept car, the new Niro EV features a sophisticated and adventurous sense of purpose. The front of the vehicles come with the Kia’s signature “Tiger Face” design with a unique daytime running lights. All of the Niro EV comes with a 2-tone body style with a wide Aero C-Pillar at the rear. The taillights comes in a boomerang shape, and it adds to the sporty appearance. To help the car to achieve better range, there is an Active Air Flap to achieve a good 0.29 coefficient of drag (Cd).

Inside the Niro, it comes with an eco-friendly interior with premium quality materials and textured surfaces. On the dashboard, there are the 2 10.25-inch digital display screens that has been used as the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. Within the infotainment screen, it comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are also the integrated infotainment and climate control system, easily accessible by front-seat passengers.

On the dashboard, it features an ambient mood lighting available in 64 colours. And as for the centre console, it has a similar look to the EV6 where it looks modern and finishes. It features a rotary dial shift lever and smartphone wireless charger. Apart from the wireless charger, there are USB charging slot around the vehicle, especially behind the front seats for rear passengers.

Around the cabin, Kia has used multiple recycled materials such as recycled wallpaper for the headlining and Bio PU seats made from eucalyptus leaves. The Niro has increased dimensions, offering a spacious environment for occupants and ample storage capacity. As for storage, the Niro EV comews with 475L of boot space where it can be expanded to 1,392L with the seats folded down. Additionally, under the hood has a 20L frunk to store charging cable and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) adapter.

Powering the Niro EV is a single electric motor that send its power to the front wheels. This single electric motor is powered by a 64.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and the electric motor has the ability to produce 201hp and 255 Nm of peak torque. The Niro EV can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 7.8 seconds, and to a top speed of 167 km/h. With this battery pack, the Niro EV has a theoretical range of 460 km on a single charge.

By using a fast charger, the Niro EV could charge from 10% to 80% in 43 minutes. Other than that, the Niro EV come with Smart Regeneration braking system for energy recuperation and improved driving range. If you use the Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, it has the ability to discharge discharging energy for electronic accessories with power supply up to 3.6 kWh of power.

For better ride and handling, the Niro EV comes with improved suspension and steering system for an enjoyable driving experience. The front of the vehicle comes with Macpherson strut-type, while the rear is a four-link type. The suspension is tuned improved responsiveness, stability, and ride comfort.

As for safety, the Niro EV will come standard with 8 airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Traction Control System (TCS), ISOFIX child restraint anchor points, and Rear Occupant Alert (ROA). And for the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the Niro EV comes with High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Assist (RCCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with Junction Turning, Lane Following Assist (LFA), and Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

The Niro EV will come in 3 different colours namely Snow White Pearl, Mineral Blue and Cityscape Green. The Kia Niro EV comes with a 5-Years Manufacturer Warranty (or 150,000km), whichever comes first. It also comes with an 8-Years High Voltage Battery Pack warranty, and a mileage limit of 160,000km, whichever comes first.
