MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN Malaysia) recently unveiled its latest offering, showcasing two units of the MAN TGS Trucks designed to meet the highest ADR Class EX/II and EX/III specifications. ADR means “Accord Dangereux Routier” or the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, sets the standard for the transportation of hazardous materials on the road.
While most ADR-compliant trucks in the Malaysian market are typically limited to FL Class (designed for carrying flammable liquids), MAN Malaysia has raised the bar by equipping their renowned Euro V-powered MAN TGS ADR Truck variant with Class EX/II and EX/III specifications as standard. This means that these trucks are certified to transport explosive materials or objects containing explosive substances.
Safety is a top priority in the construction of Euro V-powered MAN TGS ADR Trucks. These vehicles come equipped with key passive safety features, including a driver’s airbag and integrated three-point seat belt with tensioners as standard. Additionally, emergency power cut-off switches inside and outside the cabin, lightweight aluminum wheels to reduce weight and friction, and an earth-return system that eliminates the risk of electrocution by disconnecting the earth cable from the chassis, all contribute to enhancing safety. Even in the standard MAN Truck variants, wire harnesses are enclosed in fire protective material.
Active safety features are integrated into MAN TGS ADR Trucks through the proprietary MAN BrakeMatic® electronic brake management system. This system consolidates and coordinates the actions of the service brake, control systems, and continuous braking systems when the brake pedal is engaged, effectively preventing jackknifing and ensuring optimal vehicle alignment.
To further enhance safety, MAN TGS ADR Trucks are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including the Lane Guard System (LGS) with Lane Departure Warning to prevent unintended lane changes, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) that automatically maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) that prevents understeering, oversteering, rollovers, and overturns, and second-generation Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) that activates automatic braking to prevent impending collisions.
