Volkswagen Malaysia quietly introduces the IQ. Drive Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) update to the Volkswagen Arteon, further enhancing its safety features. Unlike the Volkswagen Golf GTi, which also receives cosmetic upgrades, the Arteon’s update focuses solely on ADAS enhancements, maintaining its familiar appearance. The non-ADAS variant will continue to be available at a lower price point.
Since its introduction in 2020, the Volkswagen Arteon has stood out as a unique vehicle in the Malaysian market, leaning more towards a 4-door coupe than a traditional sedan. With the addition of the IQ. Drive update, the Arteon’s price now hovers around RM 300,000, placing it in direct competition with new C-Class and 3-Series models.
Under the hood, the Arteon is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine, delivering an impressive 280 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the 4motion all-wheel drive system, the Arteon can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h. Despite its powerful performance, the Arteon remains competitive within its price range. Here is the full review video for the Arteon:
The updated Arteon’s highlight is undoubtedly the inclusion of Volkswagen’s ADAS. The introduction of two different settings for adaptive cruise control, normal and sports mode, adds versatility to the driving experience. In normal mode, the adaptive cruise control behaves similarly to a human driver, accelerating smoothly to the set speed. Conversely, the sport mode accelerates more aggressively, potentially unnecessary for everyday driving.
One noticeable absence from the Arteon’s ADAS features is automatic high beams. This omission may be due to the lower-spec IQ. Light headlights fitted on the local Arteon models. However, despite this small oversight, the Arteon’s ADAS update contributes to an overall safer driving experience.
The practicality of the Arteon is another standout aspect. Despite its coupe-like profile, the car offers ample space, including a spacious boot for transporting belongings. Additionally, the Arteon impresses with its responsive and direct steering, instilling confidence when maneuvering corners. The steering wheel’s quick lock-to-lock ratio, requiring only three turns, adds to the enjoyment of driving the vehicle.
Considering the new price tag of RM 299,990, the Arteon remains an attractive option. With the size of an E-Class or 5-Series, but priced similarly to a C-Class or 3-Series, it presents a compelling value proposition. Although it may lack the premium feel of its luxury counterparts, the Arteon excels in providing a thrilling driving experience while retaining practicality.
