WTCA and GAC Partner for CKD Project to Expand Presence in Malaysian Automotive Market

Warisan Tan Chong Automotive (WTCA) recently announced to start Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) vehicles in Malaysia. This represents a stronger partnership between the two companies. As part of the project, WTCA will invest over RM60 million in the manufacturing of the new GAC Motor GS3 model and the expansion of its nationwide presence in Malaysia. This CKD project follows an agreement signed approximately 18 months ago that appointed WTCA as the sole and exclusive distributor of GAC vehicles in Malaysia.To meet the new CKD model local assembly and GAC standards requirement, part of the RM60 million investment will be allocated to model-specific investments such as tools and facility upgrades in Tan Chong’s Segambut facility. This collaboration marks the first CKD project for GAC in ASEAN, demonstrating both companies’ commitment to expanding their presence in the Malaysian market and supplying consumers with advanced vehicles.WTCA plans to establish more than 70 showrooms across the country via its own branch setup and dealership appointment. The first GAC Motor Malaysia flagship showroom will be located in Section 13 Petaling Jaya and is expected to be ready in Q3 2023. This CKD project is part of a long-term commercial partnership between GAC MOTOR and Tan Chong Group in the ASEAN region. Over the next five years, WTCA plans to introduce a comprehensive inventory of right-hand drive GAC MOTOR models, including SUVs, sedans, and MPVs.The new CKD GAC Motor GS3 model will feature a third-generation 1.5 Turbo Direct Injection engine, 7-speed WDCT transmission, and a segment-leading torque of 270Nm @1400~4500rpm. Its next-generation design and level 2 advanced driver assistance systems make it one of the most sought-after models in the market.In addition to the CKD project, WTCA has also partnered with Mayflower Car Rental Sdn Bhd, handing over a fleet of 25 GAC Motor GS3 SUVs, with another 25 to come. Mayflower has introduced the All-New Adventure GAC Motor GS3 Programme, a competitive car leasing programme to meet diverse market demands and provide the public with more opportunities to experience the capabilities of this exciting vehicle.
