Proton continued to showcase an increase in sales for the month of March, with 14,573 units sold, representing a 3.8% increase over February and an 11.9% increase from March 2022. This brings the total sales for Q1 2023 to 40,287 units, representing a growth of 50.9% compared to the previous year. Proton’s market share for the month was estimated to be 18.7%, allowing it to maintain second place in the sales table rankings. For the quarter, market share was estimated to be 21.2%, making PROTON the biggest gainer in terms of market share, with a growth rate of 4.5% compared to Q1 2022.

The Proton Persona has emerged as the leader in the highly competitive B-segment sedan market, with 2,421 units sold in March and a total of 6,773 units sold in Q1 2023, representing an increase of 79.2% over the same period in the previous year. The Proton X50, a B-segment SUV, remains the best-selling SUV in Malaysia, with 3,414 units sold in March and 9,668 units sold in Q1, representing a growth rate of 34.7%. The Proton Exora retains its standing as the best-selling C-segment MPV, with 426 units sold in March.

The Proton Saga remains the company’s best-seller, with 6,313 units sold in March and a total of 17,446 units sold in Q1 2023, representing an increase of 84.6%. However, the growth rate is masked by floods that affected Saga production at the beginning of 2022. The Proton Iriz and Proton X70 achieved sales of 712 and 1,272 units, respectively. The former remains in fourth place for B-segment hatchbacks, while the latter is a strong second for C-segment SUV sales.

In March, car sales reached a new record high, with the Total Industry Volume estimated to stand at 78,000 units, breaking the previous high of 76,657 units set in December 2022. PROTON’s continued success in the Malaysian car market is a testament to the popularity of its models and the company’s commitment to providing quality vehicles to consumers.
