Sime Darby Berhad has entered the Indonesian automotive market through a joint venture with Galeon Group called PT Performance Motors Indonesia. The partnership between Sime Singapore Ltd. and Galeon Group provides the automotive arm of Sime Darby Berhad with an immediate presence in Jakarta and Medan via two dealerships representing BMW and MINI. The joint venture marks Sime Darby Motors’ first foray into Indonesia and will serve as a platform for expansion into other provinces in Java and Sumatra, with the BMW Group seeking to grow its network in the country.
According to Sime Darby Berhad Group CEO Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson, Indonesia is a crucial market for the company. With one of the largest automotive markets in the region and a large and fast-growing middle and upper-middle class, the country offers significant growth opportunities. He expressed his satisfaction at partnering with Galeon Group, which has extensive experience and expertise in the local automotive industry. Davidson also noted that the joint venture is part of Sime Darby Berhad’s strategy to grow its Motors operations in the Asia Pacific region.
BMW Group Indonesia President Director Ramesh Divyanathan welcomed Sime Darby Motors into the BMW Group Indonesia dealer network, calling it a clear sign of confidence in the BMW and MINI brands’ strong sales performance in the Indonesian market. The BMW Group is a wholly-owned Munich-based BMW AG subsidiary that has been established for more than 22 years, reflecting the group’s confidence in Indonesia’s long-term future. Divyanathan also expressed the company’s commitment to continuing to grow with BMW Group Indonesia as a strategic partner and to working closely to expand the BMW and MINI brands in Indonesia.
Leonel Gozali, Principal of Galeon Group, believes that the partnership with Sime Darby will accelerate growth and expand the brand’s territory beyond its current locations. He expressed confidence in Sime Darby’s strong automotive and BMW experience, solid back-end systems, and robust financial capacity to support growth. With Sime Darby’s valuable experience in the automotive sector across the value chain, Gozali sees the partnership as a great opportunity to grow together and bring success to both parties.
