Despite its age, the Volvo XC90 midsize luxury SUV still manage to earned the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This is after IIHS strengthened the requirements for its TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) and TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) awards. The updated requirement would require car manufacturer to provide better side crash protection, improved pedestrian crash prevention systems, and the elimination of subpar headlights from the field of qualifying vehicles.
The main change to the criteria involves replacing the original IIHS side crash test with an updated one that requires vehicles to earn an acceptable or good rating to qualify for TSP, while a good rating is necessary for the TSP+. This new test involves 82 percent more energy than the original test. The XC90, available in both mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, earned a TSP+ award.
In addition to its award-winning safety, the XC90 Recharge provides up to 77 km (NEDC) or 35 miles (EPA) of all-electric driving in Pure mode. As sustainability is just as important as safety for Volvo Cars, the company has announced plans to sell only fully electric vehicles by 2030 and to become carbon neutral by 2040.
In order to celebrate this achievement, Volvo Car Malaysia will be giving out complimentary five-year service package (VSA5+) to those who purchased the Volvo XC90 B5 Ultimate Mild-Hybrid or the Volvo XC90 Recharge T8 Plug-In Hybrid from 1st March until 31st March. This is a 5 year comprehensive car service package from Volvo Cars that covers the first five car services including Wear and Tear items that may need to be replaced.
