The New Kia Sorento Now Available in Malaysia

Back in January, Kia Malaysia showed us the latest generation Kia Sorento and in March, the Sorento is finally launched. This is the 3^rd vehicle that Kia Malaysia launch under the distributorship of Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn. Bhd. Before entering Malaysia, the Kia Sorento has already won multiple awards internationally such as the Car and Driver 2022 Editors’ Choice award and 2021 Red Dot awards.

The all new Kia Sorento will get the hallmark ‘tiger nose’ LED grille, ‘tiger eyeline’ LED daytime running light, sharp bumper front spoiler with a skid plate. The new Sorento comes with 35mm longer wheelbase, 10mm taller and a new proportion. The new proportion pushed the A-pillar 30mm backwards from the front axle give the vehicle a ‘cab-rearward’ design.

Inside the Sorento, it now looks more striking, desirable, and comfortable than before with the use of premium-quality materials. The Sorento will come with ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger, and BOSE surround-sound system. There are the 12.3” instrument cluster and a 10.25 inch infotainment screen. The infotainment screen come with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and it allow up to 2 smartphone to connect to the infotainment system. To keep devices charged up, there are up to 4 USB charging slot available for both 2^nd row and 3^rd row occupants.

In terms of safety, the all-new Sorento is equipped with standard safety features and advanced safety features. The standard safety features of the Sorento includes 6 SRS airbags (Front Driver & Passenger, Side and Curtain), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Multi-Collision Brake Control (MCB), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), ISOFIX Child Restraint Anchor Points and Top Tethers comes as standard for all three variants.

The all-new Sorento comes equipped with High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW),  Blind-spot Collision Avoidance (BCA), Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM) which is only available for the 2.5L ‘Smartstream’ High and 2.2D ‘Smartstream’ High , Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) , Drive Attention Warning (DAW), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with Junction Turning (a technology with pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle detection, that also helps detects oncoming traffic when making a turn at a junction), Lane Following Assist (LFA) and Smart Cruise Control (with Stop & Go).

For the Malaysian market, the Kia Sorento will come with 3 different specification. The 1^st 2 variants will be powered by the 2.5L Smartstream petrol engine. For the 7-seater variant, the engine only send its power to the front wheels, while the 6-seater variant come with AWD. The 2.5L Smartstream engine has the ability to produce 177hp and 232 Nm of peak torque. The 2.5L engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

At the top of the line, the 2.2L diesel will come with 199 hp and 440 Nm of peak torque, and power is sent to all 4 wheel through an 8-speed wet double-clutch transmission (8DCT). The 2.2L diesel will be powering the 6 seater variant of the Kia Sorento. On top of that, the 2.2L diesel will get Terrain mode that improves traction, stability and control on different road conditions.

The all-new Sorento is locally-assembled as CKD at the Inokom Assembly plant located in Kulim, Kedah. The colour line-up includes, Astra Blue, Meteor Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver and Jet Black, making a total of 5 colours available.

Starting price for the vehicle starts from RM 209,888.00 and comes with a 5-Years Manufacturer Warranty with a coverage period of up to five years and a mileage limit of 100,000km, whichever comes first.
