With the theme ‘Awaken the Beasts’, UMW Toyota Motor and GAZOO Racing Malaysia proudly launched 5 different models to the Malaysian market. This 5 models include the 3 GR and 2 GR Sport models – GR Supra, GR Corolla, GR 86, Hilux GR Sport, and Corolla GR Sport. Gazoo Racing 1st introduced their vehicles in Malaysia back in 2019, with the introduction of the GR Supra. Later on, it was followed up by the introduction of the GR Yaris and Vios GR Sport in 2020.
GR Supra
Starting with the GR Supra, it was an update to the sports car that was launched in 2019. Back then, the car was only available with 8-speed automatic transmission, but for the 2023 update, it is now available with the 6-speed manual transmission. While the engine is still the same 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine, the performance has been uprated on the 2023 model. This engine can now produce 388 PS of power and 500 Nm of peak torque from 1,800-5,000rpm. Another big change will be the newly redesigned 19” alloy rims. Other than that, it stays pretty similar to its pre-facelift model. The GR Supra will be priced at RM 645,000.
GR Corolla
One of the stars of the show is the GR Corolla. Riding on the successful run that Toyota had with the GR Yaris, the GR Corolla will continue to provide Malaysians with a bespoke all wheel drive hot hatch from Toyota. The GR Corolla will be powered by the same 1.6L 3 cylinder turbocharged engine as the GR Yaris, but the power on the GR Corolla has been uprated to 300 PS and 370 Nm of peak torque. The engine is still mated to a 6-speed short-shift intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) with auto rev match, and the power will be sent to all 4 wheels through the GR-FOUR AWD system. Just like the GR Yaris, the torque distribution on the GR Corolla can be split into 60:40, 30:70, and 50;50.
The GR Corolla weighs in at 1,475 Kg, and is fitted with front MacPherson Struts and rear Double Wishbone with retuned springs, dampers and anti roll bars. This makes the car feel stiffer from the already stiff chassis. The GR Corolla will come with performance parts which include carbon fiber roof, sporty rear spoiler and vented hood, and runs on Yokohama Advan tyres on 18” inch Alloy wheels.
The GR Corolla will be available in Precious Metal, Super White 2, Emotional Red 2, and Black There is also the 12” inch Full Digital Multi-Information Display alongside with 9” inch Display Audio with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 6 speakers as standard. It is also fully equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which is the finest and most refined version of Toyota Safety Sense. This includes PreCollision Warning, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control & Auto High Beam, ISOFIX ready and 7 Airbags throughout the vehicle. The GR Corolla will be priced at RM 355,000.
GR86
The GR86, the third model in the GR line-up, is a high-performance sports coupe that is favored by driving enthusiasts. This car is an upgraded version of the Toyota 86, which is renowned for being the best handling car of all time. The GR86 is a powerful machine that is driven by a newly-developed 2.4L Horizontally Opposed 4-cylinder Boxer Engine, capable of producing 237 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.3 seconds, and is available with a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission with a short-throw shifter or as a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The manual variant weighs 1291 Kg and has a 50:50 weight distribution with a limited slip differential, making it an excellent choice for driving enthusiasts who want to put its power to the test.
The GR86 is also equipped with a range of safety features, including the Pre-Crash System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Automatic High Beams, Adaptive Front Lighting System, and 7 airbags.
The interior of the GR86 features a newly-designed cabin, with an 8-inch touch screen display that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, combination leather and suede seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Overall, the GR86 is a high-performance sports car that combines power, handling, and safety features, making it an excellent choice for driving enthusiasts. The GR 86 will be priced at RM 295,000.
Hilux GR Sport
Toyota has bestowed the Hilux with the GR emblem following its success in the Dakar Rally. The Hilux GR Sport boasts a new sports suspension system with monotube dampers that provide greater driving confidence on any terrain. It is also equipped with paddle shifters, making it perfect for drivers who desire maximum response and control. This is the first paddle shifter system implemented in the Hilux line-up.
The Hilux GR Sport stands out with its new front bumper, blacked-out side mirrors, grille frame, and overfenders finished in body color, giving it a sportier aesthetic. It is also equipped with a black sports bar, a new shark fin antenna, and black and red body side and tailgate graphics, which pay tribute to Toyota GAZOO Racing’s rally cars. Additionally, the GR Sport Hilux comes with red brake calipers bearing the GR logo and newly-designed 18-inch alloy wheels.
The interior of the Hilux GR Sport features red stitching throughout the cabin, redesigned front sports seats with suede and leather inserts, a GR-badged leather steering wheel with red stitching, a GR-themed optitron meter with GR welcome animation, a GR push start button, and aluminum sports pedals. The Hilux GR Sport will be priced at RM 159,880.
Corolla Cross GR Sport
The Corolla Cross GR Sport is a model that embodies the GAZOO Racing spirit, designed to meet the needs of SUV customers who lead an active lifestyle and desire a sportier driving experience with better handling, while also enjoying an enhanced interior and exterior presence with GR Sport styling.
On the exterior, the Corolla Cross GR Sport showcases a 2-tone color scheme, with black elements such as the exterior mirrors, roof, and rear spoiler adding to its sporty appeal. The front radiator grille has been updated with a more aggressive and wider black design. The car also features 18-inch GR Sport alloy wheels, clear lens LED rear lamps, an exclusive rear bumper lower garnish design, and is available in three color options: 2-tone Platinum White Pearl (Hero), 2-tone Red Mica Metallic, and 2-tone Nebula Blue.
Inside the car, the all-black interior is highlighted by red stitching that sets it apart as a GR Sport model. The features exclusive to the Corolla Cross GR Sport include a push start button with GR logo, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching and tilt/telescopic adjustments, a leather with red stitching lever knob and boot, leather seat covers with embossed GR logos on the front headrests, and a GR carpet mat design.
Under the hood, the Corolla Cross GR Sport is rated at 139 PS and 172 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-Speed CVT with Sequential Shiftmatic transmission, electric power steering with a Sport ECU, specially-tuned stiffer front and rear suspension, and a special performance bar added under the chassis.
