In January 2023, Proton managed to sell 11,681 units (domestic and export), a significant increase of 162.3% compared to the same period the previous year. This impressive performance allowed PROTON to comfortably retain its second place in the overall sales table.
This puts Proton market share at an estimated 22.9%, which is an improvement of more than 12% over last year. This result is also 3% more than the whole of 2022. Overall in January 2023, the industry has registered an estimated 51,000 units, which would translate to an increase of 22.8% in vehicle sales.
As Proton overcome the chip shortage issue, one of the badly affected model, the Proton Persona returns to the top spot for the bestselling B-segment sedan in Malaysia in January 2023. The Persona rack up a total of 2,039 units sold in January. The Proton X50 continues to be the most popular SUV in January, with a total of 2,992 units sold.
And for the Proton X70, it racked up 993 units last month, putting it in the 2nd place in its segment. The Proton Saga was the brand’s best-seller with 4,788 units while sales for the Proton Iriz jumped by 111% year-on-year to end the month at 597 units. The Proton Exora retained its leadership of C-segment MPVs as 332 units were sold last month.
