UMW Toyota Motor ends the year on a positive note with a total of 101,035 vehicles sold in 2022. Splitting between the brands, Toyota sold 100,042 units and 993 units of Lexus. This put Toyota as the top selling non-national brand in Malaysia. Compared to 2021, UMW Toyota Motor see 40% increase for 2022 despite the challenging market conditions as well as supply chain issues.
Breaking down by model, a total of 17,208 units of the Corolla Cross sold for the year. The Hilux is the bestselling vehicle in its segment with 27,198 unit sold, while the Hiace (390 units) and Fortuner (3,432 units) show strong numbers. For the aftersales, UMW Toyota also maintain 1.25 million vehicles under its Extra Mile initiatives.
While Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) technology was one of the direction that UMW Toyota Motor is taking to achieve carbon neutrality, the company also studying and evaluating the viability of introducing Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) here in Malaysia. Toyota and Lexus BEV models are already available internationally, and local launch may be expected.
While gradually moving into the era of electrification, UMW Toyota Motor will continue to maintain driving fun and Gazoo Racing will continue in Malaysia. The motorsport events will continue, and this will enable Toyota to make ever-better cars and deliver fun-to-drive experiences. For 2023, more exciting GR model is expected to reach our shores as well as GR parts and GR merchandise.
