Perodua’s production and sales have achieved remarkable growth in March, with its manufacturing arm producing 33,666 units and sales division registering 32,179 vehicles. Perodua President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, attributed this success to various factors, including meeting the PENJANA orders’ deadline, production improvements in the supplier ecosystem, and better coordination within the sales network.
On a quarterly basis, production increased by 33.9% to 84,800 units, while registration rose by 27.5% to 78,564 units in the first three months of 2023, compared with the same period last year. Although some PENJANA orders remain unfilled, Perodua has promised to honour the sales exempt amount guaranteed under the initiative.
Dato’ Sri Zainal said that Perodua expects to build on this growth as the number of bookings for its models remains healthy. The waiting period for some models has been reduced, thanks to sustained production growth, while the decrease in raw material prices has eased cost pressures for suppliers, Perodua, and most automotive players.
In late January, Perodua announced its production target of 330,000 cars and sales target of 314,000 cars in 2023. Dato’ Sri Zainal believes that the favourable conditions will give Perodua a chance to build up its stock faster and reduce the waiting period for customers. He added that despite these achievements, a small number of PENJANA orders remain unfulfilled, and Perodua will honour the sales exempt amount guaranteed under the initiative and apologize for the long wait.
